Cops raid conspiracy theorists house

A leader of Melbourne's coronavirus conspiracy theorist movement has live streamed his dramatic arrest as police raided his home.

A South Australian woman has shared a disturbing picture of a display at an Adelaide Hills pharmacy, where there were "tester" masks available for customers.

“Anyone else think there might be an issue here?” she wrote in a post on Twitter, along with the image, which shows two disposable face masks – both labelled “tester” – sitting atop a shelf packed with hand sanitiser.

“Shared masks! What could possibly go wrong?” one Twitter user wrote in response to the post, while another called it “sheer idiocy”.

One man wrote that he’d accounted a similar situation at another chemist in the South Australian capital, where the owner said the masks were used by staff to “demonstrate” how face masks should be worn.

Meanwhile, prominent anti-coronavirus conspiracy theorist James Bartolo has warned his supporters not to attend an anti-lockdown protest today, calling it a “trap”.

Mr Bartolo, who was arrested yesterday morning over inciting an illegal protest, wrote he was “concerned about the safety of the brave men and women who plan to go” to the demonstration.

The 27-year-old called attending a protest “the worst possible thing to do”.

“It is a set up from the get go. It is all just terrible. Don’t go to that one,” he said.

“What is going to happen, Dan Andrews will blame the protest for the lockdown extension. Don’t go to the protest.”

His warning comes as Victoria recorded 76 new cases of coronavirus and 11 deaths overnight, while Queensland reported one new infection – a close contact of a known case.

'Worst venue to date' hit with $10k fines

Natalie Brown

Liquor and Gaming NSW have labelled the Bondi Bowling Club as the "worst venue to date" for COVID-19 breaches, following an inspection on August 29.

The lawn bowls venue has been hit with two fines, totalling $10,000, with inspectors saying they identified multiple breaches including serious physical distancing and hygiene issues such as multiple group bookings of more than 10 people and a complete lack of social distancing in queues to the bar.

Patrons were also spotted mingling and walking around while drinking alcohol, dirty cups and plates were left on tables, and there were inadequate sign in processes with staff unable or unwilling to enforce the mandatory safety measures.

Man tried to 'bribe' police at border

Natalie Brown

A 66-year-old Victorian man allegedly tried to bribe a police officer with $1000 after he was stopped on Barmah Bridge at the NSW-Victoria border.

Police say the man was trying to enter NSW without a border permit – and when asked by officers to hand his permit over, the man allegedly tried to give them an envelope of cash.

He was arrested and taken to Deniliquin Police Station, where he was charged with giving or offering a bribe to a member of NSW Police.

The man was granted conditional bail and is set to appear before Moama Local Court on November 4.

Further north in Queensland, police will allege a 64-year-old man who was in charge of a boat which travelled from Victoria to the Gold Coast breached the Public Health Act by providing false information to an emergency officer.

Police said the boat, which arrived in Queensland on August 25 with seven people on board, had also made a trip between Victoria and NSW.

MP's bizarre endorsement of 'Curfew Noise Protest'

Natalie Brown

MP David Limbrick has issued an impassioned plea to his fellow Victorians to join him in the "Curfew Noise Protest" tonight.

"We are living in dark times – and not just for the friends and families of those impacted directly by the pandemic," Mr Limbrick wrote in a letter, shared to his Facebook page.

"While we are forced to wear masks, the authoritarians running our state and their enablers have been unmasked.

"The intrusion into our lives gets more personal and more extreme every day."

He added it's "understandable" that people want to protest against the "authoritarian behaviour" of the Premier and his government, before suggesting a "cost-effective" way Victorians can indulge their outrage (without breaching public health orders and copping a hefty fine).

"So that we can have an outlet to protest whilst not breaking the law, I'd like to support a Curfew Noise Protest. I will be joining on Saturday night at 8pm to make a racket in support of ending emergency powers," Mr Limbrick said.

"It's simple – bang your pots and pans, beep your horns at 8pm, and let your neighbourhood know that we don't have to suffer in silence.

"While you're at it, why not film it and share it on your social media? Let's make a racket together!"

My sincere condolences to anyone who was hoping to get some well-earned rest this evening.
